What must be considered with an extraction system
Extraction systems are important for many production processes. They ensure that production waste and dust are reliably and automatically removed from production machines. Especially in applications such as packaging production and print finishing lines, where large amounts of production waste and dust are constantly generated, extraction systems are essential for efficient operation. Continuous extraction of waste can increase the productivity of production machines in such fields of applications. In the following article, you can find out more about the important aspects that need to be considered for extraction systems.
Which functions are particularly important in an extraction system?
Extraction systems from Hunkeler Systeme are designed and tailor made according to the customer’s individual requirements. In particular, the optimization of the piping system is an important point. The more compact the system is, the more energy-efficient it is, as less air must be transported. This leads to considerable savings in operating and energy costs.
Working with corrugated cardboard and similar materials generates dust as well as production waste. Extraction systems separate the production waste from the dusty process air. Our systems use rotary material separators for this purpose. The dust is then filtered out of the process air in a filter system and the filtered air can be fed back into the production environment. This reduces energy consumption and the cost for air conditioning systems, as the expensive, conditioned air can be exhausted back into the production environment. Our extraction systems work according to the negative pressure principle. This has the advantage that no dust can escape into the production environment in the event of leaks in the piping system. In addition, more efficient fans can be used compared to conventional extraction systems.
During the optimization process, we will of course also be happy to advise you on other measures that can make your operation even more efficient and economical. This can include, for example, the upstream installation of a punching waste shredder.
How energy-efficient are modern extraction systems?
Energy efficiency is our top priority when designing your extraction systems and choosing the right components. In addition to reducing the size of the system and the air volume to an absolute minimum, the following aspects and components play a central role in our Greenline Concept:
- Reduction of general energy consumption
through optimal system architecture - Reduction of unnecessary energy consumption
with the automatic switch-off function (ASA) - Saving energy costs for air conditioning technology
by returning the process air to the production environment - Demand-based regulation of energy consumption
with the energy saving system (ESS)
Conventional extraction systems usually remain switched on continuously during operation. As the connected production machines often do not run constantly, as a result a lot of energy is wasted. This leads to high operating costs for extraction systems. The ASA automatic switch-off system detects when parts of the production machines are not in operation and automatically switches off dedicated extraction lines in this case. The extraction system is therefore only active when it is actually needed.
Energy consumption can also be reduced during extraction. As described, our extraction systems work according to the vacuum principle. By constantly measuring the pressure conditions in the piping system, our systems recognize how much power is effectively required to maintain the necessary extraction capacity. Instead of constantly running at full load, the power consumption of the extraction system is automatically adjusted to the actual demand. Savings of up to 60 percent of the nominal output are often possible in this way.
