Galexis AG has equipped their distribution centre in Ecublens with a stationary carton press with a mobile container. Empty cardboard boxes are compacted in a screw compressor. The continuous pressing process means comparatively high performance at low sound emissions.
Galexis AG operates their distribution centre for western Switzerland in Ecublens near Lausanne. It is from Ecublens that chemists, pharmacies, medical practices, care homes and hospitals in western Switzerland are supplied with drugs, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as well as with chemical and technical products. Galexis AG has approximately 23,000 articles permanently in stock. For distribution, the products are taken from large cardboard boxes and refilled on commissioning lines in smaller containers. The empty boxes go to the screw compactor via conveyor belts and are compacted in a container. There is about five tons of material every week. The container is mobile and is emptied at the near-by Papirec SA weekly. The screw compactor presses the cardboard boxes in a continuous twisting movement. This compaction principle, compared to other presses with a piston, means a much higher density – up to 20 per cent higher fill weight. Additionally, a screw compactor has nearly no noise emissions. Galexis AG is situated in a residential area, so a low noise level compacting system stood at the top of the list of requirements, says Head of Operations Daniel Küng. „Hunkeler Systeme AG listened to us carefully. Our needs were understood. We got exactly the solution we needed.“
